Tech conglomerate Meta, who recently* acquired a small social media site called “Instagram,” has received a large amount of complaints in the past few months from various meme pages and gimmick accounts all complaining that they receive little to no respect on the platform.
One complaint, filed by user anal_fissure, said “...[my] followers don’t even take me seriously. I’ve never had someone comment on how inspirational my content is - it’s all just buzzwords and AI slop. Do you know how insulting it is when all people do is try to one up you?”
Another account, dr.house.yaoi, expressed displeasure with alleged biases in the site’s algorithm. “I barely have any followers, but my content should have a huge audience. You’re telling me pictures of House and Wilson making out crazy style isn’t one of the most popular things on the site? My content isn’t reaching its intended audience, and it shows - someone at the top has it out for me.”
Users also reported difficulty in acquiring sponsorships, citing the “cowardice” and “hypocrisy” of many common sponsors.
“I honestly don’t know what they’re so afraid of,” wrote site user hitlers-left-testicle, who exclusively posts videos of people falling out of moving cars. “Great expression isn’t appreciated in its time. Absolutely disgraceful. Back in ancient times there was something called being a ‘patron of the arts’ - you should look into that, Zuckerberg.”
A complaint from one anonymous user said, “You’ll sponsor some single mom ‘struggling to provide for her family,’ but not my Instagram account dedicated to posting memes about Dr. Pepper? Sure, buddy. I see how it is.”
The radio silence from sponsors seems to be taking its toll on some users, with some complaints citing financial issues resulting from lack of sponsorship: “It’s my dream to be able to make Richard Nixon x JFK fancam edits full time, but without sponsors I’m stuck working a dead end six-figure job for a stupid pharmaceutical company. How am I supposed to support myself with that? It’s outrageous.”
We reached out to Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg for comment, but he simply claimed that the aggrieved users had “too much feminine energy,” and that he was going to somehow “make Reels worse.” He then proceeded to begin muttering to himself about “how much he loves to eat bugs” and “climate change bunkers” or whatever tech billionaires are into nowadays.
