Abstinence only Math education is the only responsible way

Mathematics leads people to sin. Why do we teach it to our children?

The evils of the world are written in numbers. As Stalin said, “a million deaths is a statistic.” The bible warns us of usurious moneylenders trapping people in debt via multiplication. Mathematics has enabled tyrannical governments to take censuses, enabled scientists to argue against the bible and weaken Christianity, and now giant piles of numbers have been used to create so-called “Artificial Intelligence” that may one day kill us all. Do not forget that the very symbols we use every day are called “Arabic numerals.” In fact, algebra was invented by a Muslim scholar of the same name!

At a fundamental level, math and numbers dehumanize and degrade people. As noted by Stalin, individual people and their lives turn to mere dots on a graph once math is involved. This influences personal lives, leading people to count their number of friends and feeling bad if their number is lower than another’s. People stop seeing each other as whole people with God-given souls and instead see only what they can receive from others - what product they can get from what factors. And math of course also enables horrible commercial exploitation. It leads people into contracts and loans with bankers and lenders that ruin their lives forever.

Casual math is tragically endemic in American society. Liberal and feminist movements have normalized the integration of casual math into daily life via extremely mathematical activities like Dungeons and Dragons. People use “one plus one equals two” as an example of something simple or trivially obvious. Our instinct is to degrade people mathematically, and people look at you strangely if you point out how sinful it all is. We need to resist this daily degradation, not revel in it. The internet has made the problem even worse, as people now have constant access to explicit, detailed mathematical content. In the modern era, a child can access sophisticated scientific calculators and explanations without his parents ever even knowing. 

In the face of this deluge of math on the internet, we must use education to encourage moral, non mathematical behavior from our children. Unfortunately our secular and feminist governments have gone in the exact opposite direction. Comprehensive math education, or even moderate policies that integrate abstinence alongside some math lessons, like what is currently being attempted in Florida teach children this lesson. Why should we, as Christians encourage our children to sin by teaching them about math at the very public schools that we pay for with our tax dollars?

The only solution is abstinence. We must not teach our children math, and we must teach them to never use math. Informing them about the existence of math in a neutral fashion will only encourage them to try it out. Abstinence is the only way to guarantee that our children never use math and never encourage others to do it. We must challenge our society’s culture of casual math by educating the next generation. We must teach our vulnerable children to always abstain from math no matter how much people try to pressure them.

There are people who argue against abstinence based math education, claiming that “Children need to understand math to survive in the world.” These confused souls miss the obvious. If we raise our children properly, they will never end up in a situation where they need an understanding of math to survive. Morally upstanding children and families will never see the world in numbers, but as God’s blessed promise, populated by people with hearts and souls. 

It is our duty as Christians and as Americans to build a more moral, more faithful world. Mathematics is a sinful scourge that disrespects people’s bodies and minds, enables tyranny and exploitation, and attacks the bible, the very foundation of the western society that has brought us our prosperity. As a Christian people in a Christian nation, we must end math education and replace it with an upstanding curriculum of abstinence.
